Let's Go to Japan! (Preparation to Japan)

I bought Garuda Indonesia Return Ticket CGK-DPS-NRT Rp 7.000.000 on October, 2015 via Traveloka, to fly in March 30 – April 7, 2016.
Why Garuda Indonesia? There are many option of airlines that offers fly to Tokyo, which is cheaper, better, or etc than Garuda Indonesia but I chose Garuda Indonesia and transit in DPS (Denpasar, Bali)?  I chose Garuda Indonesia because I want to try fly with the best airline of my country. Garuda Indonesia is our pride airline. Honestly, Japan is not my first intention of this plan. I chose Japan as my travel destination at this time just because I want to fly long haul with Garuda Indonesia. And I think, to entrance this country is possible to me. I expect that I can get Japan VISA’s easly compare to get another VISA’s (South Korea, Schengen, UK, Australia, UK and etc). I read on many blog or internet that to get Japan VISA’s is not difficult compare another VISA’s that I mention above. And I had to prove it!
So, there is direct flight from CGK (Jakarta) to NRT or HND (Tokyo), Why you chose transit in DPS? As my explaination above, I just want to try fly with our pride airlines, Garuda Indonesia. I dont want to waste my 7 million rupiah just to fly with Garuda Indonesia twice (Jakarta to Tokyo, return)! Hahaha. So, I take a chance to flew with Garuda Indonesia 4 times! Hahahaha! I can flew with Garuda Indonesia from Jakarta to Denpasar by Airbus A330-200, Denpasar to Tokyo by Boeing 777-300ER (return), and Denpasar to Jakarta by Boeing 737-800. See! I have a chance to tried 3 different types of aircraft only in one booking code!

Next step is I must have a place to take a rest in Japan. For this one, I ask someone to booking a room for me in Agoda.com and Hostelworld.com. I ask a member of Kaskus for this one. Her nickname in Kaskus is teruppi. I knew her from my travel partner, Satryo. He told me that his friend also asked teruppi to booking a room in Agoda. Initially, I was a bit hesitant with her but teruppi is a good person who give us easiness to booking a room in Japan! She is friendly too! I like her hahaha.. She never ask fees from her service, she just help us to booking rooms from her Agoda account and her benefit is she got points for the reservations that she made. It is a thing that make me a little bit hesitant. Hehehe. But teruppi is recommended person to help you making a room reservation. She only accept booking rooms in Agoda. But, I ask her to help us making reservation in hostelworld.com (psssttt! Only at this time and only for us) hahaha :p
So, this is the place that we booked in Japan:
  • In Yokohama, we stayed at Sotetsu Fressa Inn Sakuragicho - The location of this hotel is very easy to access. In front of this hotel is Bashamichi Station (Minatomirai Subway Line). And I love the hotel because the location is very strategic. We just need walking a few minutes to go to best destination in Yokohama such as Yokohama Redbrick Warehouses, Minato Mirai Ferris Wheel or Cosmo World, Yokohama World Potters, Yokohama Landmark Tower and etc. The room is small but comfort and clean. We stayed at this hotel just for a night by cost around Rp 1.100.000 for two people (doubled room type).
  • In Kyoto, we stayed at Kyoto K’S House - The location of this hostel is far quite from Kyoto Station, but not too far to walk from Kyoto Station to hostel. We could walk around 15 minutes to go to Kyoto Station from this hostel. The hostel is comfort and clean. We stayed at this hostel for two nights in 6 Bed Mix Dormitory room. The cost is around 3.400 yen for a night.
  • In Tokyo, we stayed at Japan Palace Hotel - The location of this hostel is close enough from Minami-Senju Station (Subway Hibiya Line). We could walk around 8 minutes to go to Hotel from Minami-Senju Station. I take single room for two night at this hostel. The room is too small and the pillow is hard (japanese pillow type). But the hotel is comfort and clean too. The cost is around Rp 450.000 / night.
The cost that I mention above was payed before I got Japan VISA’s. Oh yeah, for moving between a city to another cities, like from Tokyo to Kyoto or another else, I used a night bus as my transportation. I take a night bus because I can saved my money for stay a night in hotel or hostel. Furthermore, the cost of a night bus is cheaper than another transportation in Japan (Shinkansen – Fast train in Japan, and Airplane). I used willerexpress.com to booking a seat of the night bus from Tokyo to Kyoto. The cost is around 7000 yen. That is more expensive that usual because the day that I chose is weekend and high season to viewing Sakura! Usually, the cost of night bus from Tokyo to Kyoto is around 3400-5800 yen. The night bus from Tokyo to Kyoto I booked before apply Japan VISA’s too, because if I delayed to booking a seat, the price is more and more expensive depend availability of seat. To booking a seat there, you must have a credit card or if you don’t have, you can use your friend / parents credit card. For this one, I asked my friend to booking two seat for me and Satryo.

Ok, next preparation is I must apply Japan VISA’s in Jakarta. To apply VISA, you can use travel agency or apply by yourself. I chose to apply by myself than use travel agency because I heard that a student of a college (especially for bachelor degrees – S1) is free of Japan VISA’s cost. At the time, I am a student of Diponegoro University, major of S1 Manajemen. To get a free of Japan VISA’s cost, I have to attach certificate of university students from campus when apply Japan VISA’s. So, for this one I didn’t pay anything to got my Japan Visa’s (except my transportation to go to Jakarta from Semarang, haha). Because I want to travel to Jakarta too, I chose to apply Japan VISA’s by myself. There was an incident when I take my Japan VISA’s at Embassy of Japan in Jakarta. I must pay the VISA cost, although I attached cerfiticate of university students from campus. In my thought, it’s okay I must pay for this, maybe the regulation of free VISA cost is not valid now. But, when I arrived in my friend boarding house, I got a telephone from Japan Embassy, they appologize to me because I should not to pay the VISA cost since I am a student of university. They asked me to come back to Japan Embassy to take back my money. Haha.. Nice. I got my Japan VISA’s for free! (to know the documents required for apply Japan VISA's, you can visit the embassy of japan website: http://www.id.emb-japan.go.jp/visa.html ).

Now, I have Japan VISA's for my holiday! The next preparation is I still must booking a seat for a night bus from Osaka to Tokyo. And then, I must prepare a detail of my itinerary. The text below is the outline of my itinerary in Japan:

March 30-31 (midnight) - Flight to Tokyo Narita from Denpasar Bali

March 31: Yokohama
April 1: Tokyo
April 2: Kyoto
April 3: Kyoto
April 4: Osaka
April 5: Fujiyama (Kawaguchiko Lake)

For detail of my trip, I will post it in other entri. See you on next post!
